TwinGuard columns have an integrated 5 m pre-column and an integrated 1 m post-column as part of one smooth fused-silica capillary. Because pre- and post-column are manufactured during the coating process, no joints are necessary that could pose predetermined breaking points or reduce chromatographic efficiency.
The state-of-the-art TwinGuard technology offers several advantages:
- A pre-column captures almost all involatile compounds that might be injected, i.e. polymers, salts, metals, catalyst, active carbon, dirt particles, and thus protects the enantioselective part of the column from disadvantageous influences.
- The rather long pre-column of 5 m allows you to frequently shorten your column without any loss of selectivity, while gaining better long-term stability and reproducibility.
- The post-column prevents you from inserting a coated capillary into your detector. This avoids decomposition of stationary phase in the heated FID detector block. The uncoated desactivated post-column capillary reduces the detector noise and thus optimises your signal-noise ratio.
Summary: Improved life-time and better signal-to-noise ratio.
